Recap by phillip woo

Billionaire Secret came from last and widest out to lead 50m out and just hold off Volcanic Spark for a third win from 33 starts. He was suited by the pace but did put the writing on the wall with a near 2,000m win last start. Volcanic Spark made it close on the wire with his move with one wider out after making his run second last from gate eight. He too was suited by the race tempo but is a well-rated runner. Beauty Alliance found a couple too smart after working to the lead 200m out following a wide with cover trip from midfield. It was another honest effort stepping up to 1,800m. Hakka Radiance just failed to place after a one-off trip from behind midfield. It was one of his better runs on turf. Me Time got going late for fifth without threatening the top four after getting held up for a run until the 220m following a patient ride fourth last. He continues to hover around the finish in three 1,800m runs across both tracks.

Race Six : (432) - LOTUS HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800Meters

Horse No 2 BEAUTY ALLIANCE (J260) B Avdulla After the event, B Avdulla reported that from a wide barrier he was instructed to ride his mount in a positive manner in the early stages.

He said as a consequence he was able to obtain an on-pace position behind SOARING BRONCO.

Horse No 3 CAN'T GO WONG (H087) L Ferraris From the 450 Metres until near the 200 Metres was badly held up for clear running.

Horse No 4 VOLCANIC SPARK (H388) H Bowman Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 BILLIONAIRE SECRET (G303) H Doyle Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 DEVILDOM (H445) K De Melo After the event, K De Melo stated that after electing to go forward his mount was obliged to race very wide and without cover when unable to cross runners to its inside.

He added after passing the winning post his mount made a respiratory noise.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of DEVILDOM, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, DEVILDOM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 7 ME TIME (J074) H Bentley For some distance after the 300 Metres was held up for clear running when being shifted to the outside of SOARING BRONCO.

Horse No 8 APOLAR FIGHTER (J169) K Teetan Shifted in shortly after the start, resulting in its rider having to correct his mount.

After the event, K Teetan could offer no explanation for his mount's disappointing performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 HAPPY HERO (G322) A Badel When questioned regarding his riding along the Back Straight and the reason he shifted away from the rail, A Badel stated that after riding his mount along in the early stages he was unable to hold a more forward position.

He said when the early stages of the event was run inside of standard time he was reluctant to remain racing on the rail as he felt the leaders may give ground and for this reason he elected to shift out and race three wide following HAKKA RADIANCE.

He added that this move was also influenced by the fact that HAPPY HERO has performed well when making an early move from the back of the field.

He further stated that from the 800 Metres he shifted to the outside of HAKKA RADIANCE where his mount commenced to improve into the event behind DEVILDOM, but in the Home Straight HAPPY HERO did not respond to his riding.

After considering his explanation, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Badel were reasonable in the circumstances.

Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued and expressed satisfaction with the manner in which Jockey Badel rode the horse.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 CHATER GOLD (J004) K C Leung Bumped passing the 100 Metres.

Horse No 11 HAKKA RADIANCE (J105) A Atzeni Near the 700 Metres commenced to race keenly when HAPPY HERO improved to its outside and as a result was steadied to avoid BEAUTY ALLIANCE.

Horse No 12 CALIFORNIA MOXIE (J131) A Hamelin Passing the 100 Metres was bumped by CHATER GOLD which shifted in slightly.

Horse No 13 CERVIN (H253) M Chadwick Noted to have blood in the mouth at the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

After the event, M Chadwick stated that it was not his intention to lead but when a number of runners to his outside did not cross he was obliged to lead the event.

He added CERVIN was not suited by racing in this position and gave ground under pressure in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 14 SOARING BRONCO (J162) M F Poon After the event, M F Poon stated that after going forward and racing outside of CHATER GOLD he had expected that runner to continue to improve to the lead.

He said when CHATER GOLD remained racing to the outside of CERVIN, SOARING BRONCO was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event and as a consequence finished the race off only fairly.

Sent for sampling post-race.
