Racing Incident Report
Race Five : (402) - THE VOLUNTEERS' CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 CIRCUIT DUFFY (J501) B Avdulla M F Poon (FORTUNE WHISKEY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the concluding stages he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of GALVANIC, resulting in GALVANIC being taken in across the rightful running of CIRCUIT DUFFY, resulting in CIRCUIT DUFFY having to be steadied to avoid GALVANIC.
M F Poon was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 5 March 2025 and to expire on Monday, 10 March 2025 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 3 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his very good race riding record.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 2 GOLDEN RISE (H242) Z Purton After the event, Z Purton confirmed that from a wide barrier his instructions were to take up a forward position.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 3 KA YING POWER (H169) C L Chau On jumping became unbalanced when bumped by TOGEPI which shifted out.
Approaching the 1000 Metres was bumped by ROARING BEBE which shifted in.
KA YING POWER then raced keenly for some distance thereafter.
Held up for clear running on the Home Turn.
Approaching the 200 Metres again became held up for clear running behind SWEET DIAMOND and as a consequence was unable to be ridden out over the final 200 Metres.
Horse No 4 GALVANIC (H147) H Bowman From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 250 Metres improved into a narrow run between BULB EMPEROR and ROARING BEBE and as a result made contact with ROARING BEBE.
Over the final 100 Metres was taken in by FORTUNE WHISKEY.
Horse No 5 FORTUNE WHISKEY (J153) M F Poon M F Poon pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference over the concluding stages (see CIRCUIT DUFFY).
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 IRON LEGION (J459) Y L Chung After the event, Y L Chung reported that his instructions were to take up a forward position.
Trainer A S Cruz confirmed the instructions and stated that he issued similar instructions at the horse's first start when it settled further back after commencing only fairly.
Horse No 7 ACE POWER (J181) A Atzeni From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 8 ROARING BEBE (H105) K Teetan Jumped only fairly, shifted in and made contact with SWEET DIAMOND.
Approaching the 1000 Metres shifted in and was bumped.
Bumped near the 250 Metres.
Horse No 9 BULB EMPEROR (J241) A Hamelin From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages and for a short distance soon after the start raced tight between IRON LEGION and FORTUNE WHISKEY.
Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 10 SWEET DIAMOND (G063) H Bentley Bumped on jumping.
Near the 250 Metres was hampered when taken in by CIRCUIT DUFFY.
Over the concluding stages raced tight to the inside of GALVANIC when that runner was taken in by FORTUNE WHISKEY.
Horse No 11 TOGEPI (G458) M Chadwick Shifted out at the start and was bumped.
Horse No 12 WORLD HERO (J413) L Hewitson Near the 250 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between IRON LEGION and SWEET DIAMOND which was taken in by CIRCUIT DUFFY.
Horse No POLARIS (J404) C Y Ho Withdrawn on 4.2.25 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right front tendon injury) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter KA YING POWER.
Before being allowed to race again, POLARIS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Following a patient ride third last from gate eight, Fortune Whiskey showed a good turn of foot near the outside to bolt clear 30m out for a second win from five starts following a stable change. Favourite Golden Rise found one to good after claiming the lead upon straightening following a speed-tracking run from gate 10. He's a winner waiting to happen. Galvanic ran on nicely through the middle to just take third after making his run at the rear from gate 12. He can bob up at any moment after hitting the line for thirds in three consecutive runs across both tracks. Sweet Diamond just missed a placing after a box-seat run. He was able to back up a third two runs ago over this Valley trip. Ace Power ran on well for fifth after making his run second last from gate 11. He has found the line better in his past two starts on his return to the Valley 1,200m. Punted late, World Hero just held his ground after a rails run from better than midfield. He will be looking forward to a stint in Class Five. Ka Ying Power was held up for the majority of the straight after a rails run from behind midfield. He should have finished closer.
