Recap by phillip woo

Mr Ascendency quickened nicely from near last to get up 30m out for a fifth career win and second success from eight starts over the Valley 1,650m. Telecom Fighters kept on gamely for second after turning the final bend two lengths on top after leading as expected from gate three. He's always a chance when left alone in front over the Happy Valley 1,650m. Helene Feeling stayed on nicely to just take third after sitting three wide without cover chasing the leading pair from barrier five. It was another good effort carrying 16 pounds more following a last-start win over 1,800m. Senor Toba just missed a placing after a prominent run on the fence. He was able to build on a sixth last start over 2,000m following a stable change. Punted late, Flamingo Trillion only plodded when asked for an effort chasing the leader on the inside. He appears from his past three starts to have hit his mark. Favourite Moments In Time only beat a couple of gallopers ridden cold from the widest draw. He was not suited by the race tempo. Red Hare King was disappointing when asked for a response when turning the final bend.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four : (401) - TSUN YIP HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 MOMENTS IN TIME (H474) Z Purton When questioned, Z Purton stated that from the outside barrier he was instructed to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages.

Trainer C S Shum confirmed the instructions and stated that he issued such instructions as MOMENTS IN TIME had raced too keenly at its last start and had performed well when ridden in a conservative manner on 4 December 2024.

Both Mr Shum and Jockey Purton advised that MOMENTS IN TIME was disadvantaged by settling back in the field when the early stages of the race was run outside of standard time.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 HELENE FEELING (H215) H Bentley When questioned regarding his riding in the middle stages and as to whether there was an opportunity to improve forward to the outside of RED HARE KING to prevent that runner taking him wider, H Bentley stated that as his mount was coming back slightly in distance and races best when able to build momentum, he was reluctant to encourage his mount forward approaching the 1000 Metres to race in advance of RED HARE KING.

He said the decision not to do so was also influenced by the fact that HELENE FEELING was up in weight tonight carrying 133 lbs and he felt the most important factor when riding the horse was to ensure that it travelled comfortably and was able to build momentum into the race.

He said for this reason making the turn near the 1000 Metres HELENE FEELING was taken wider by RED HARE KING and when SENOR TOBA then improved to the inside of RED HARE KING, his mount was obliged to race wide and without cover thereafter.

Horse No 4 CAPITAL DELIGHT (H262) C Y Ho Jumped only fairly and then was slightly crowded by TELECOM FIGHTERS which shifted out.

After the event, C Y Ho could offer no excuse for his mount's disappointing performance.

Trainer C Fownes stated that the horse had pleased him leading into tonight's race but could offer no explanation for the performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 MR ASCENDENCY (G227) L Ferraris From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After the 200 Metres raced in restricted room between FLAMINGO TRILLION and HELENE FEELING for a short distance.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 TELECOM FIGHTERS (D482) K Teetan Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 RED HARE KING (H188) M Chadwick After the event, M Chadwick stated that his mount enjoyed a comfortable run during the race but failed to respond to his riding in the Home Straight and was disappointing.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
