Recap by phillip woo

Confringo enjoyed the easier run to get the bob down and defeat favourite Podium for his first win at his eighth start. Podium ran on nicely to just miss after straightening with one wider out following a patient ride two from the rear. He's racing well. Punted late, Gallant Crown kept on well for third after getting his own way in front from gate 12. He can break through shortly after thirds in three consecutive runs. Superb Move kept on for an even fourth after settling box seat from gate eight. He's well rated and can bob up at any moment. Smashing Express ran on steadily for fifth after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He's better suited over a longer trip. Mr Good Vibes came from last to finish next best. It was an OK performance following a downgrade. Super Baby only plodded when asked for an effort following a one-off trip from better than midfield. He's at his best when allowed to dictate things in front. Running Ahead's bid from towards the rear 650m out was short-lived. You'remyeverything was short of room over the final 150m following a prominent run on the fence.

Racing Incident Report

Race One : (398) - HUNG TO HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 SMASHING EXPRESS (J252) H Bowman Shifted in near the 1500 Metres and was bumped.

After the 100 Metres was steadied to avoid PODIUM (M F Poon) which shifted in when not quite clear.

M F Poon was advised to exercise more care.

Horse No 2 SUPER BABY (G364) Z Purton After the event, Z Purton stated that his instructions were to obtain cover as SUPER BABY had been racing out of form when it led its last two starts.

He added when the pace of the event increased approaching the 500 Metres when RUNNING AHEAD moved forward, SUPER BABY was not suited by having to be ridden along at that stage.

Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 PARTY WARRIOR (E368) K De Melo Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Horse No 4 CONFRINGO (J322) H Bentley Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 MR GOOD VIBES (H180) A Badel Jumped only fairly and shortly after the start raced in restricted room between SUPERB MOVE and PARTY WARRIOR.

Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of A Badel, 7th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ensure that he fully rides his mounts out to the finish of the race.

Horse No 7 YOU'REMYEVERYTHING (E413) K H Chan After the event, K H Chan stated that his mount would be better suited by being ridden in a more conservative manner in the early stages.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, YOU'REMYEVERYTHING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 8 PODIUM (H173) M F Poon Near the 1500 Metres was bumped by SMASHING EXPRESS which shifted in.

Briefly held up for clear running after the 400 Metres.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 9 MR ALADDIN (H386) A Atzeni When caught wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward and obtain a position outside the lead near the 950 Metres.

Horse No 10 RUNNING AHEAD (G313) L Hewitson From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Shifted in near the 200 Metres and was bumped.

When questioned regarding his riding from the 700 Metres when he commenced a forward move, L Hewitson stated that his instructions were to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages.

He said after following SMASHING EXPRESS near the 700 Metres RUNNING AHEAD commenced to race keenly which resulted in him having to shift out and away from SMASHING EXPRESS.

He said as he did so RUNNING AHEAD continued to race keenly which resulted in him commencing a forward move shortly after.

He added as he approached RED MAVERICK to his inside near the 600 Metres, that runner shifted out, resulting in RUNNING AHEAD being obliged to race four wide and without cover thereafter when his mount did not show enough speed to cross that runner.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.

Before being allowed to race again, RUNNING AHEAD will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 11 SUPERB MOVE (G304) K Teetan Near the 1400 Metres shifted out when being corrected by its rider K Teetan, resulting in SUPERB MOVE then racing wide and without cover until near the 1200 Metres.
