Race Eight : (374) - VICTORIA PARK HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 SUGAR SUGAR (G016) K H Chan After the event, K H Chan could offer no explanation for his mount's disappointing performance.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 2 BEAUTY DESTINY (H281) A Atzeni A Atzeni pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference approaching the 1000 Metres (see THUNDER PRINCE).
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 VON BAER (K198) M L Yeung Jumped only fairly.
Horse No 6 MIDORI GLORY (J248) M F Poon After the event, M F Poon expressed concern with the horse's action during the race.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 7 MOJAVE DESERT (J330) M Chadwick Jumped awkwardly.
Horse No 8 RIGHTEOUS ARION (H059) Y L Chung Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 9 THUNDER PRINCE (K017) C Y Ho Jumped only fairly.
A Atzeni (BEAUTY DESTINY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1000 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of THUNDER PRINCE, resulting in THUNDER PRINCE having to be checked when crowded between BEAUTY DESTINY and SUGAR SUGAR.
A Atzeni was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 5 March 2025 and to expire on Monday, 10 March 2025 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
In addition, Jockey Atzeni was fined $60,000.
In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his neutral race riding record.
THUNDER PRINCE, which was having its first race start at Happy Valley, raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages and for some distance approaching the 600 Metres was steadied away from SUGAR SUGAR.
In this incident, THUNDER PRINCE shifted out and made the turn near the 600 Metres wider.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 10 HAPPY FAT CAT (G166) A Hamelin Sent for sampling post-race.

Favourite Beauty Destiny quickened nicely with one wider out to overhaul long time leader Happy Fat Cat 50m out for a third win and a shorthead second from his past four starts. He will remain in the grade and has the tools to win another. Happy Fat Cat kept on nicely for second after pinging the start from gate two. He's close to a win after getting on track with a fourth last start. Young Arrow ran on nicely down the outside for third planted three wide towards the rear from gate 12. He was able to back up a rallying third last start and a win for him is around the corner. Punted late Mojave Desert stayed on well along the inside for fourth after a rails run from midfield. It was his best performance on turf after a win and second on the all-weather surface following a stable change. Magnificent Nine made ground late fifth without threatening the top four after a oneoff trip from behind midfield. It was a typical performance despite a switch to the Valley. Supported late in betting, Righteous Arion only plodded after a handy run wide without cover from gate 11. He had an excuse.
