Race Seven : (334) - THE JANUARY CUP (HANDICAP) - Class G3 - 1800Meters
Horse No 1 HAPPY TOGETHER (G446) A Badel Jumped awkwardly.
Making the Home Turn had difficulty obtaining clear running when improving into a narrow run between STAR CONTACT and HELENE FEELING.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 2 FIVE G PATCH (G286) B Avdulla Near the 150 Metres made contact with ENCOUNTERED when being shifted to the outside of STAR CONTACT.
Horse No 3 LA CITY BLANCHE (G371) M Chadwick Lay out in the Home Straight and near the 150 Metres M Chadwick was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Horse No 4 ENCOUNTERED (G236) K Teetan Shifted out at the start and was bumped.
Bumped near the 150 Metres.
Horse No 5 THE GOLDEN SCENERY (E379) A Pouchin Over the concluding stages could not be fully ridden out when racing in restricted room between MONEY CATCHER and WOODFIRE BRO.
After the event, A Pouchin stated that the instructions were to hold a forward position but not necessarily lead.
He said in the early stages when caught wide and when the pace of the race was run outside of standard time he elected to allow THE GOLDEN SCENERY to stride forward and settle outside the early leader FLAMINGO TRILLION.
Horse No 6 MOMENTS IN TIME (H474) H Bowman On jumping was bumped by ENCOUNTERED which shifted out.
Approaching the 1400 Metres raced in restricted room between WOODFIRE BRO and THE GOLDEN SCENERY and commenced to race fiercely.
As a result, MOMENTS IN TIME was then checked to avoid STAR CONTACT for some distance thereafter when it refused to settle.
Raced keenly through the early and middle stages and as a result was allowed to stride forward near the 800 Metres to take up a position outside the lead.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 7 HELENE FEELING (H215) H Bentley Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 8 MONEY CATCHER (G171) M F Poon Near the 600 Metres was steadied to avoid MOMENTS IN TIME (H Bowman) which shifted in when not clear.
H Bowman was advised to exercise more care.
Horse No 10 FLAMINGO TRILLION (H192) K C Leung A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 12 ROMANTIC LAOS (G476) A Atzeni Jumped only fairly.
Near the 300 Metres was shifted to the outside of THE GOLDEN SCENERY to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 150 Metres became held up for clear running when disappointed between MONEY CATCHER and STAR CONTACT and as a result could not be fully ridden out to the finish of the event.

Well-backed Helene Feeling settled with with cover and behind midfield before quickening nicely with one wider out to get up in the concluding stages for a fifth win from 21 local starts, improving his record to two wins and a third from three course and distance runs. Happy Together ran on willingly to finish a close second settling third last from gate 10. It was a huge performance carrying top weight. La City Blanche flashed home from a distant last from gate 11 to finish a close third. He really enjoys the Valley circuit. Encountered ran on late to grab fourth after biding his time second last from gate five. It was a good run on his return to the Valley after producing one positive showing from four Group performances at Sha Tin. Favourite Moments In Time grudgingly gave way after taking off 800m out travelling keenly from better than midfield to lead near the 700m. He had an excuse. Five G Patch made some ground after a one-off trip from midfield. He prefers a longer trip. Star Contact only plodded when asked for an effort after a one-off trip from better than midfield.
