Recap by phillip woo

Mighty Commander quickened nicely with two wider out to just overhaul The Azure in the dying stages after a patient ride fourth last for a first win at his eighth local start. The Azure did everything right but could not get the win after moving to the lead near the 100m following a one-off trip in midfield. It was another fine effort. Good Luck Win kept on gamely after easing out of a speed battle to sit one off the fence in third from gate one. Apolar Fighter had his chance but found a few too good after a one-off trip from better than midfield. He's a limited sort. U S S Constitution got going late down the outside for fifth after biding his time one from the rear. It was his best run from five starts this term. Viva Hunter made some headway late without threatening ridden third last from gate 11. Foremost Teddy only plodded when asked for an effort after a rail run in midfield. He's disappointed in three consecutive starts. Team Happy faded after getting caught wide chasing the speed early on from gate 10. Favourite Ninja Derby had an excuse after rolling forward wide without cover from midfield to sit second 650m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (330) - KINGSTON HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 HYPER DRAGON BALL (G450) A Hamelin From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Before being allowed to race again, HYPER DRAGON BALL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 2 MIGHTY COMMANDER (J360) H Bowman From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Lay in over the final 200 Metres, resulting in its rider H Bowman changing his whip through to his right hand near the 150 Metres.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 THE AZURE (J227) K C Leung Lay in over the final 200 Metres.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 GOOD LUCK WIN (J135) C L Chau Shifted out approaching the winning post and was bumped.

When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages and the reason his mount did not hold the lead, C L Chau confirmed the instructions were to show intent in the early stages and ride his mount in a manner to lead the event.

He said after making some use of GOOD LUCK WIN shortly after the start he observed SUPER BABY improve to his outside and when he was of the view he would not be able to hold that runner out, he commenced to allow SUPER BABY to cross his mount approaching the first turn.

He said as he allowed SUPER BABY to cross, GOOD LUCK WIN got its head up when he eased and made the first turn awkwardly.

He added making the Home Turn GOOD LUCK WIN hung out towards NINJA DERBY and as a result he was obliged to correct his mount to avoid that runner before being able to ride GOOD LUCK WIN out in the Home Straight.

After considering his explanation, the Stewards advised Jockey Chau that he had made an error of judgement in the early stages in conceding the lead too soon when SUPER BABY improved to his outside and he should wherever possible, ensure that he rides his mounts in accordance with the instructions issued by connections.

Horse No 6 FOREMOST TEDDY (J058) C Y Ho Approaching the 1500 Metres was steadied when crowded between GOOD LUCK WIN which shifted out slightly and APOLAR FIGHTER which shifted in and away from SUPER BABY.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on FOREMOST TEDDY at the request of Trainer C S Shum.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, FOREMOST TEDDY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 7 STARMEN (J199) K Teetan Raced wide and without cover from the 700 Metres.

Horse No 8 APOLAR FIGHTER (J169) A Pouchin Approaching the winning post made contact with GOOD LUCK WIN which shifted out slightly.

Horse No 9 NINJA DERBY (H339) Z Purton Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and was bumped.

After the event, Z Purton reported that his instructions were to endeavour to obtain cover.

He said when caught wide in the early stages he was obliged to continue forward to avoid racing wide which resulted in NINJA DERBY racing outside the lead.

He said due to the effort that the horse made in the early stages to cross runners, it was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of NINJA DERBY was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts.

Before being allowed to race again, NINJA DERBY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 VIVA HUNTER (E369) M Chadwick From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Between the 300 Metres and approaching the 100 Metres was held up for clear running.
