Recap by phillip woo

Fortune Whiskey just got up in the final few metres to deny favourite Golden Rise after a one-off trip in better than midfield for a first win at his 12th start. Golden Rise found one just too good after emerging with the lead 600m out following a four-runner tussle for the lead. He is a winner waiting to happen. Excellent Peers ran on well to just take third without threatening the top two after making his run third last from gate 12. He does appear from his past two starts to have turned the corner for the better. Street Conqueror just failed to place after a rail run in midfield. It was a better effort from gate one but he is likely on his mark following a win two runs ago. Satirical Fan came up onepaced after handing up the lead to travel in the box seat from gate three. He's in the right grade but is better suited over a mile trip. Night Purosangue made inroads late after making his run three from the rear. It was a better performance at his second ever start following a Sha Tin failure in October. Prime Mortar didn't find much when push came to shove after easing out of a battle for the front to settling one-out, one-back.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two : (329) - GREAT GEORGE HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 SATIRICAL FAN (J214) E C W Wong Near the 500 Metres, when racing keenly, was steadied to avoid GOLDEN RISE when that runner shifted in.

Horse No 5 HAPPY DAY (G119) C Y Ho Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Approaching the 200 Metres was steadied to avoid SHINE BRIGHT (B Thompson) which shifted out to improve.

B Thompson was advised to exercise more care.

Horse No 7 NIGHT PUROSANGUE (J510) K C Leung From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 1150 Metres was steadied when taken out slightly by SHINE BRIGHT.

Horse No 8 LOADED WITH FLUKE (K069) A Pouchin Jumped only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the 200 Metres was hampered when taken wider by HAPPY DAY.

Horse No 10 SPICY KNUCKLES (H463) M Chadwick Jumped only fairly.

Near the 50 Metres M Chadwick dropped his whip.

Horse No 11 AFFIRM (H306) A Atzeni When questioned regarding his riding, A Atzeni stated that from a wide barrier his instructions were to take up a forward position.

He said in the early stages he rode his mount along to comply with his instructions, however, AFFIRM did not show its usual pace and was unable to cross runners to his inside.

He said in the Back Straight he was of the opinion that the riders of GOLDEN RISE and PRIME MORTAR were looking to obtain cover and for this reason he continued to ride AFFIRM forward in an attempt to cross runners to his inside.

He added AFFIRM continued to not respond to his efforts to go forward and came under pressure at the 600 Metres before giving ground badly from that point.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm.

Before being allowed to race again, AFFIRM will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 12 FORTUNE WHISKEY (J153) M F Poon Sent for sampling post-race.
