Racing Incident Report
Race Six : (152) - LA ESTEPHE HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400Meters
Horse No 1 ARIEL (G223) E C W Wong Despite being ridden along in the early stages failed to show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position.
Horse No 2 YUEN LONG ELITE (J272) H Bowman Had some difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300 Metres and the 250 Metres.
When questioned, H Bowman stated that his mount was fractious in the barriers just prior to the start being effected when being assisted by a starting gate handler.
He said as a consequence YUEN LONG ELITE jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
He added that after obtaining a midfield position behind FLYING LUCK, YUEN LONG ELITE finished the race off satisfactorily.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.
Before being allowed to race again, YUEN LONG ELITE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 SATIRICAL GLORY (H073) M F Poon After the event, M F Poon stated that from a wide barrier he was instructed to ride his mount with cover in the early stages.
He said as a result SATIRICAL GLORY settled behind midfield in order to comply with his instructions.
Trainer C W Chang confirmed the instructions and said he issued such instructions as SATIRICAL GLORY had not finished its race off when holding a more forward position at its previous race start.
Horse No 5 VIEW OF THE WORLD (J348) Z Purton Near the 900 Metres was steadied to avoid ARIEL (Apprentice E C W Wong) which shifted in.
Apprentice Wong was advised to exercise more care.
Briefly held up approaching the 300 Metres.
Horse No 6 MR ENERGIA (J239) H Bentley Shortly after the start was crowded between SUNDAY'S SERENADE and SOLID WIN, both of which shifted ground.
Horse No 8 SOLID WIN (J225) A Atzeni Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 9 MATSU VICTOR (H472) L Ferraris From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 10 DOUBLE WIN (H382) L Hewitson Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 11 FLYING LUCK (J339) C Y Ho Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 12 SUNDAY'S SERENADE (J231) K Teetan After travelling a short distance raced in restricted room between MR ENERGIA and MILES AWAY which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
Making the turn after the 900 Metres shifted out when racing tight between YUEN LONG ELITE and MR ENERGIA and as a result was steadied away from MR ENERGIA.
Horse No 13 MILES AWAY (J221) A Badel Shifted in after travelling a short distance and was bumped on the hindquarters.
Horse No 14 EVER SMART (J179) M Chadwick After the event, M Chadwick stated that from an inside barrier he was instructed to hold a position with cover behind the leaders.
He said when no other runner in the race showed the intent to lead, this resulted in EVER SMART improving in the early stages to race in the lead.

Sensationally backed Flying Luck had a prominent run on the fence and got up late, despite being blocked for a run behind the tiring Ever Smart until the 200m, for a first win at his fourth start. Solid Win was denied late after moving to the front 100m out following a handy run one off the fence. He is close to a win with placings in two of his three starts this term. Outsider Sunday's Serenade just got the head down for third after a rails run from behind midfield. He's improved with a step up to 1,400m in his past two of five starts. View Of The World just failed to get up for a placing after making his run wide with cover towards the rear from gate 11. It was a good run in defeat. Endeared ran on through the middle to just miss the frame after a wide with cover trip from behind midfield. He's not far off a bottom. Mr Energia peaked on his run 100m out after looming to win the race 150m out following a wide with cover trip from midfield. Yuen Long Elite ran on steadily from just worse than midfield after jumping slowly. He had an excuse.
