Recap by phillip woo

Punted late, Sunny Darling took control 200m out after a pace-stalking run for a first win after failing to place in his opening 10 local starts. The return to the dirt 1,200m worked the oracle. Shanghai Style got going late from better than midfield on the fence to edge Sonic Boom for second. It was a return to form with the claim well utilised. Sonic Boom just lost second late after finding a prominent spot one off the fence from gate nine. He has run well in two of his three starts in Class Four this term. Daily Trophy got going late for fourth without threatening the top three after turning the final bend with only one behind him following a tardy start. He rarely produces a bad run on this surface. Bowser made some ground late without threatening after sitting wide with cover behind midfield from a wide draw. He's gone well in both all-weather runs this term. Post-time favourite Hinokami Kagura made a minor bid after making his run four from the rear. He needed the run. Pre-post favourite Fun N Fun Together was withdrawn by order of the stewards on vet advice.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 SHANGHAI STYLE (J093) E C W Wong Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 ALWAYS FLUKE (H252) L Ferraris L Ferraris was warned in relation to using his whip when held in a forehand manner forward of the saddle.

After the event, L Ferraris reported that after being able to lead the race, when placed under pressure in the Home Straight, ALWAYS FLUKE hung in and proved difficult to ride out to the finish.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 HINOKAMI KAGURA (H384) H Bentley After the event, H Bentley reported that his mount did not appreciate racing in amongst other horses, particularly when racing tight on the first turn and this was the main reason for its disappointing performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, HINOKAMI KAGURA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 9 MR VALIANT (G288) P N Wong Approaching the 900 Metres, when racing keenly, was steadied to avoid ALWAYS FLUKE when being crossed by that runner.

MR VALIANT then continued to race keenly for some distance thereafter.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on MR VALIANT at the request of Trainer D J Hall.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, MR VALIANT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 10 DAILY TROPHY (H283) B Thompson Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 11 OMAKASE (H416) Y L Chung Raced very wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 12 SONIC BOOM (H144) M Chadwick After the event, M Chadwick stated that his instructions were to ensure that his mount maintained a comfortable rhythm throughout the event and not to unnecessarily restrain it.

He said although SONIC BOOM was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event, it did so as he was riding to the instructions issued.

Trainer W K Mo confirmed the instructions issued.

Horse No 4 FUN N FUN TOGETHER (J232) Z Purton After being placed in the barriers reared and struck its head, resulting in blood being present in the nostrils.

Acting on veterinary advice that FUN N FUN TOGETHER was not suitable to start, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.

FUN N FUN TOGETHER was subsequently found to have sustained an injury to the nasal bone.

An endoscopic examination also confirmed that the blood had not emanated from the lungs and was due to the injury and as such the horse was deemed not to have bled.

The Stewards ruled that FUN N FUN TOGETHER will be required to attend barrier practice to the satisfaction of the Starter prior to performing satisfactorily in a barrier trial and being subjected to an official veterinary examination before racing again.
