Recap by phillip woo

Punted late, Never Peter Out got up in deep stretch after a wide run without cover from midfield for a first win at his seventh start. He relished the switch in surface. Lucky Banner found one too good after outpointing Viva Hunter for the lead and straightening two lengths on top. He is as honest as the day is long but isn't a prolific winner. Favourite Hakka Radiance ran on steadily for third after a one-off trip from better than midfield. He is close to a win with placings in his past two starts. Atomic Beauty stayed on OK to finish a clear-cut fourth after chasing the leading pair from a tricky gate. He's been naturally returning to form in his three outings across both surfaces this season. Only U made some ground late from near the rear without threatening the top four. He is likely more effective on the turf. Miles Away gradually faded after a prominent run on the fence. It was an improved effort following a surface switch. Viva Hunter had little left upon straightening after working forward three wide to share the lead 700m out from the widest draw.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (123) - TIN HA SHAN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 GOR MO TUEN (J434) B Thompson The performance of GOR MO TUEN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, GOR MO TUEN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 2 FLOOF (H432) H Bowman When questioned, H Bowman stated that from his inside barrier he was requested to allow the speed to cross him in the early stages and take up a position behind those runners.

He said in the early stages FLOOF raced keenly, however, entering the Back Straight settled better.

He added near the 900 Metres his mount was obliged to race three wide when ONLY U improved to his inside, however, in his opinion, this did not affect his mount's performance as he was able to remain racing with cover.

He further stated that in the Home Straight FLOOF responded only fairly to his riding and coughed on a number of occasions after the winning post.

Trainer P F Yiu confirmed the instructions issued.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

The performance of FLOOF was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts.

Before being allowed to race again, FLOOF will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 3 ONLY U (J037) C L Chau Jumped only fairly.

Approaching the 900 Metres improved into a tight run between GOR MO TUEN and FLOOF.

A short distance later, ONLY U raced in restricted room to the inside of FLOOF when that runner shifted back in slightly.

Horse No 4 VIVA HUNTER (E369) M F Poon Raced wide and without cover in the early stages and as a result near the 1100 Metres was allowed to stride forward where it obtained a position outside the lead near the 800 Metres.

After the event, M F Poon stated that after having to make use of his mount in the middle stages to avoid racing wide, VIVA HUNTER was then unable to finish the race off in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 HAKKA RADIANCE (J105) K C Leung Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 LUCKY BANNER (G354) E C W Wong Near the 150 Metres shifted out, resulting in its rider Apprentice E C W Wong having to stop riding and straighten.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 9 SMART BEAUTY (G477) Y L Chung Approaching the 350 Metres was shifted to the outside of FLOOF to obtain clear running and then raced tight for some distance to the inside of PERFECT PEACH.

Horse No 10 NEVER PETER OUT (J200) M L Yeung Jumped only fairly.

Raced wide and without cover from the 800 Metres.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 PERFECT PEACH (E488) L Hewitson After the event, L Hewitson reported that his mount enjoyed a comfortable run during the event, but failed to quicken in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, PERFECT PEACH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
