Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Family Jewel was patiently ridden fourth last and produced a run through the centre to lead 160m out to claim back-to-back wins following a step up to 1,600m. Chater Gold ran on nicely with one wider out to finish a close second after getting impeded and losing ground 800m out following a wide trip from behind midfield. He is a winner waiting to happen. Punted late Californiatotality stayed on very well to finish a close third after a four wide without cover trip in midfield from gate 13. It was a cracking run in defeat. Coming Patch got going late down the outside for fourth after a patient ride two from the rear. It was a better effort second up following a step up to a suitable 1,600m. Devas Twelve came up one paced after losing some momentum when inconvenienced 800m out following a one-off trip in midfield from gate 14. He had an excuse. Soaring Bronco didn't get things his own way on top of the speed. He was stepping back in distance after a fourth over 1,800m.

When questioned regarding his riding near the 50 Metres, Z Purton stated that after riding his mount along in the Home Straight, approaching the 50 Metres he felt both CHATER GOLD and CALIFORNIATOTALITY shift ground slightly and when he was concerned this may result in his mount being crowded for room, out of precaution he decreased his vigour for a short distance.

The Stewards were satisfied with the explanation provided by Jockey Purton.
