Recap by phillip woo

Following a patient ride in second last from gate seven, Rocket Spade surged to the lead and kept on well for an overdue first win at his 25th local start. He has always promised and finally rewarded connections following a downgrade. Punted late, Super Unicorn stayed on nicely for second after settling one-out, one-back. He did not mind the switch to the Valley after placing in two of his five Sha Tin runs last term. Courier Magic ran on steadily for third after settling on the rail in midfield. It was a return to form after failing to threaten in his final three last term. Ninja Derby faded to finish a distant fourth after stalking the pace. It was an OK effort in a higher grade following back-to-back wins. Sure Joyful ran on all right after settling one off the rail in midfield. He should come on for the run. Favourite Matsu Victor failed to figure after getting all favours in the box seat. He could not lift carrying six pounds more following a win. Durham Star ran on late without threatening from the rear of the field. Gallant Crown knocked up badly over the last 100m after getting his own way in front from gate four.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (52) - KWUN TONG HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 ROCKET SPADE (G170) H Bowman Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 DURHAM STAR (E082) L Hewitson From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 3 SURE JOYFUL (G125) M F Poon Crowded at the start by SUPER UNICORN which shifted out.

Horse No 4 MATSU VICTOR (H472) C Y Ho Near the 250 Metres was bumped by COURIER MAGIC and became unbalanced as COURIER MAGIC raced tight to the inside of ROCKET SPADE.

When questioned, C Y Ho stated that from the inside barrier his intention was to hold a more forward position to take advantage of the gate.

He said whilst MATSU VICTOR travelled comfortably throughout the event, it failed to respond strongly to his riding in the Home Straight.

He added, in his opinion, MATSU VICTOR may be better suited by being ridden in a more conservative manner in the early stages to allow it to finish the race off.

Trainer K W Lui agreed with the assessment of Jockey Ho that MATSU VICTOR may not have appreciated being ridden in a more forward position.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 BRAVE WITNESS (H425) K Teetan Shifted in on jumping and became unbalanced when it bumped with GALLANT CROWN.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

The performance of BRAVE WITNESS, a last start winner, was considered to be disappointing as compared to its previous race start.

Before being allowed to race again, BRAVE WITNESS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 ON THE LASH (J182) C L Chau A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
