Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed Spicy Gold kept finding after sweeping to the lead 150m out after a wide trip behind midfield for a maiden win at his ninth start. He will remain in the grade and can win again. Golden Rise ran on nicely for second after making his run one off the rail behind midfield. He was able to back up a closing fourth last start. Aurora Lady kept on nicely for third after finding a prominent spot one off the fence from gate 10. It was a good showing. Sky Prophet came from near last after a slow start to fill the frame without threatening the top three. He is still learning the ropes but has flashed potential in his four 1,200m runs across both tracks. Speedy Smartie got going late to finish next best after making his run five back on the fence. He isn't a prolific winner but rarely produces a bad run over the Valley 1,200m. Party Warrior ran on without threatening after settling three from the rear. He is beyond his better days. My Intelligent came up one-paced after settling on the rail in midfield. It was a below-par effort after placing in five of six prior starts across both tracks.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four : (796) - KWAI FONG HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 HAPPY TRIO (G244) L Hewitson From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 2 SPICY GOLD (H440) A Badel Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 AURORA LADY (J066) K Teetan Had both hind plates refitted at the holding stables, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

Horse No 4 GOLDEN RISE (H242) H Bowman Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 RACINGRACE (J102) L Ferraris Jumped only fairly.

Leaving the 1000 Metres was bumped by COLONEL when racing tight between CIRCUIT SEVEN and COLONEL.

When being steadied to obtain cover leaving the 900 Metres commenced to race keenly.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 PARTY WARRIOR (E368) K H Chan Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 7 SKY PROPHET (J095) C Y Ho Slow to begin and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Bumped near the 1000 Metres.

Horse No 8 CIRCUIT SEVEN (D474) M F Poon After the race, M F Poon stated that he had to make some use of his mount to hold the lead in the early stages and as a result CIRCUIT SEVEN did not finish the race off when placed under pressure in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 SPEEDY SMARTIE (H108) C L Chau Near the 900 Metres was steadied to avoid MY INTELLIGENT (M L Yeung) which shifted in when not clear.

M L Yeung was reprimanded.

Noted to have lost its left front plate after the race.

Horse No 10 HERCULES (C476) A Atzeni Jumped only fairly.

Approaching the 1000 Metres became unbalanced when it bumped with SKY PROPHET.

When questioned, A Atzeni stated that from a favourable barrier his intention was to endeavour to hold a midfield position.

He said HERCULES, despite his efforts, did not show sufficient pace to do so and as a result became detached from the field in the early stages.

He said throughout the early and middle stages he encouraged HERCULES to improve its position, however, HERCULES did not respond to his riding and remained at the tail of the field.

He added that after encouraging his mount forward on the Home Turn and in the early part of the Home Straight HERCULES did not respond to his riding until inside the 200 Metres where it finished the race off in a satisfactory manner.

The Stewards advised Jockey Atzeni that, wherever possible, he should ensure that he places his mounts under appropriate pressure to allow them to finish in the best possible placings in the field.

Horse No 11 MY INTELLIGENT (G031) M L Yeung Held up making the Home Turn and near the 300 Metres was steadied to avoid RACINGRACE.

For a short distance near the 200 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
