Recap by phillip woo

Top Peak edged clear after surging to the lead 150m out following a one-off trip from better than midfield for a first win at his seventh start. He had been knocking on the door in two prior starts. Forerunner ran on nicely to grab second 30m out after a wide with cover trip from midfield. He is building towards a win. Invincible Missile finished full of run from an impossible spot to grab third following a slow start. He is not reliable. Favourite Storming Dragon had no more to offer 50m out after moving to the lead 250m out following a speed-tracking run from gate 14. He couldn't build on placings in two prior starts but it's still early days for him. Always Fluke whacked on one paced after a box seat run. He has found things too tough after starting the campaign with a win and second. Beauty Alliance kept on one paced after a wide without cover run from better than midfield. It was another positive showing at his second career start. Circuit Mighty ran on without threatening from near the rear. Both Chateauneuf, who broke through the gate, and Gameplayer Warrior were withdrawn by order of the stewards.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (699) - EXULTANT HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400Meters

Horse No 3 ALWAYS FLUKE (H252) L Ferraris For a short distance approaching the 300 Metres raced tight to the inside of EVER SMART when that runner lay in as it was commencing to give ground.

Horse No 4 STORMING DRAGON (J237) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 BEAUTY ALLIANCE (J260) B Avdulla Noted to have blood at the mouth on arrival at the Start.

Examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 6 CIRCUIT MIGHTY (G078) M F Poon In the middle stages raced keenly.

Lay in in the Home Straight and near the 100 Metres was positioned close to the heels of JOYFUL LIFE when being shifted to that runner's outside.

After the race, M F Poon stated that his instructions were to hold a forward position.

He said his mount jumped only fairly and despite being ridden along in the early stages did not show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position.

Horse No 7 EVER SMART (J179) H Bentley When giving ground in the Home Straight lay in.

Horse No 8 WIN SPEED (J205) B Thompson Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 9 FORERUNNER (G465) A Hamelin Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 TOP PEAK (H441) C L Chau Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 TIGER AND GOLD (J064) K H Chan Bumped at the start.

Horse No 13 INVINCIBLE MISSILE (C037) A Badel Slow to begin.

Horse No 14 JOYFUL LIFE (H426) K Teetan Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

After the race, K Teetan reported that he was instructed to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages as it was stepping up in distance to 1400 Metres for the first time.

Trainer P F Yiu confirmed the instructions issued and stated that he may now look to drop JOYFUL LIFE back in distance as it raced too keenly during the event.

Horse No 1 CHATEAUNEUF (J219) H Bowman After being placed in the barriers reared and got its front legs over the gates, resulting in the gates opening and CHATEAUNEUF completing the course riderless.

Was withdrawn by order of the Stewards and subsequently found to be lame in its right front leg with wounds to the right front cannon.

Before being allowed to race again, CHATEAUNEUF will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 10 GAMEPLAYER WARRIOR (J178) L Hewitson After being placed in the starting gates became fractious, reared and was cast underneath the starting gate.

Was removed from the starting gate and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was not suitable to race.

Acting on this advice, GAMEPLAYER WARRIOR was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.

Was subsequently found to have sustained a wound to the right hind leg.

Before being allowed to race again, GAMEPLAYER WARRIOR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Subsequently L Hewitson was examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements.
