Recap by phillip woo

Top Gun led from gate 14 and kept finding when challenged for the lead 200m out for a smart debut win in Hong Kong. It was a solid performance after winning three of four outings in Australia. Early favourite Second To None was hampered by the winner over the last 100m after a box seat run. It was a good effort despite a rise in class. Lost Child stayed on nicely for third after a rails run from midfield. It was a return to form on a wet track. Beauty Fit kept on reasonably well after a one-out, one-back run. It was another pleasing run following a five-point penalty for a last start win. Sunlight Power made good ground late to just miss the frame travelling third last after a slow start. It was a nice up in grade after back-to-back wins. Well-backed to jump favourite Ka Ying Victory was plodding over the last 100m after a pace-stalking run from a wide draw. Northern Beaches plodded after a wide without cover trip from midfield. Beauty Crescent failed to turn it up another gear after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He couldn't let down carrying top weight on the wet track.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (622) - FWD INSURANCE NCB HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1400Meters

Horse No 3 TOP GUN (J249) K Teetan Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 TURIN STARSPANGLED (J209) A Atzeni Jumped awkwardly and made contact with the left side of its barrier.

Horse No 5 HYPER DRAGON BALL (G450) C L Chau Made contact with the running rail whilst proceeding onto the track, dislodging its rider C L Chau.

C L Chau was again dislodged when HYPER DRAGON BALL was fractious behind the starting gates.

HYPER DRAGON BALL was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the Start and passed suitable to race.

Jockey Chau was examined by the Chief Medical Officer after arriving at the Start and passed fit to fulfil his race riding engagement.

Throughout the early stages raced ungenerously and became unbalanced on a number of occasions.

Horse No 6 HARMONY GALAXY (J266) J McDonald Shifted out at the start and was bumped.

In the early stages over-raced.

Horse No 7 NORTHERN BEACHES (H266) D Lane Raced wide and without cover from the 650 Metres.

Bumped approaching the 400 Metres.

Horse No 8 BEAUTY FIT (E279) A Hamelin Approaching the 400 Metres was disappointed for clear running between KA YING VICTORY and NORTHERN BEACHES and in this incident made contact with NORTHERN BEACHES.

After the 200 Metres raced tight between NORTHERN BEACHES and KA YING VICTORY as it improved into a narrow run between those two horses.

Horse No 9 ORIENTAL SMOKE (E467) L Morris Jumped only fairly and then was crowded by HARMONY GALAXY which shifted out.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 SECOND TO NONE (H319) L Hewitson The Stewards considered a protest/objection lodged by L Hewitson, the rider of the second placegetter, SECOND TO NONE, against TOP GUN (K Teetan) being declared the winner alleging interference over the final 150 Metres.

After considering the evidence, the Stewards found that leaving the 150 Metres TOP GUN shifted in, crowding the running of SECOND TO NONE for some distance which resulted in both runners making contact approaching the 100 Metres.

The Stewards also found that over the final 50 Metres SECOND TO NONE was afforded clear running during which period SECOND TO NONE failed to make any ground on TOP GUN.

After considering the manner in which both horses finished the race off, the Stewards were satisfied that had the interference not occurred after the 150 Metres, TOP GUN would have still finished in advance of SECOND TO NONE, the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

K Teetan was advised to exercise more care.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 KA YING VICTORY (H287) Z Purton When questioned regarding KA YING VICTORY racing in a forward position, Z Purton stated that due to the racing pattern of today which, in his opinion, had favoured on-pace horses, he was instructed from a wide barrier to go forward.

He added that after commencing well, KA YING VICTORY was able to hold a position outside the lead and responded fairly to his riding in the Home Straight.

When questioned regarding his riding out of KA YING VICTORY, Z Purton stated that over the concluding stages when LOST CHILD shifted out, he was concerned that runner would continue to shift out and, as a precaution, he did not ride his mount out from that point.

Trainer D J Hall confirmed that the instructions were issued on the basis that he felt it would be advantageous to hold a forward position given the manner in which the track had been racing today.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 PRINCIPLED (J206) M Chadwick Slow to begin.

Horse No 13 SUNLIGHT POWER (H244) H Bentley Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Throughout the early stages over-raced and approaching the 900 Metres was steadied away from PRINCIPLED.

In the Home Straight lay in and proved reluctant to shift to the outside of runners to obtain clear running.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
