Recap by phillip woo

Strive For Glory swooped down the outside to win going away after making his run out the back from gate 10. It was his first win in Class Four. Following a prominent run, well-backed Speedy Smartie did everything right but could not get the win after rushing to the lead 200m out. He's run well following a switch to the dirt in his past three starts. Solid Shalaa ran on well for third after getting out of a traffic jam 200m out following a rail run from behind midfield. It was a good run at his first go on the surface. Mayhem stayed on well for fourth after a one-off trip in midfield. He's run well with a switch to the dirt in his past two starts. After leading from gate 12, Valiant Elegance turned the final bend nearly three lengths on top but knocked up 100m out on his return to the surface of a past win off a similar mark. Jolly Companion kept on at one pace after a handy run on the fence. He's still settling in despite a downgrade and switch in surfaces. Favourite Diamond Flare was beaten approaching the straight after chasing the speed three wide from a tricky gate.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (366) - KESTREL HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 JOLLY COMPANION (H454) E C W Wong Lay out in the Home Straight.

Over the concluding stages was awkwardly placed close to VALIANT ELEGANCE.

Horse No 2 MAGIC SUPREME (D144) M Chadwick Bumped near the 350 Metres.

Horse No 3 TOP TOP TEA (H048) H Bowman Jumped awkwardly and then was crowded shortly after the start.

Near the 350 Metres was shifted to the outside of DIAMOND FLARE and made contact with MAGIC SUPREME.

After the race, H Bowman stated that after initially responding to his riding in the early part of the Home Straight, TOP TOP TEA, which was having its first start on the All Weather Track, failed to let down which he attributed to racing on this surface for the first time.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 JUDY'S GREAT (J016) C Y Ho Bumped on jumping.

For a short distance near the 200 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg.

Before being allowed to race again, JUDY'S GREAT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 5 SOLID SHALAA (H228) K Teetan Bumped on jumping.

Approaching the 200 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between MAYHEM and JOLLY COMPANION (Apprentice E C W Wong) which shifted out before being corrected by its rider.

Apprentice Wong was advised to exercise more care.

Was then shifted to the inside of JOLLY COMPANION to secure clear running thereafter.

Noted to have sustained an abrasion to the right front leg after the race.

Horse No 6 DIAMOND FLARE (H224) L Ferraris Shifted in at the start and was bumped.

When commencing to give ground after the 350 Metres was steadied when momentarily crowded between JOYFUL LIFE and MAYHEM which shifted out slightly to improve.

After the race, L Ferraris reported that the only explanation he could offer for his mount's disappointing performance was that it may have got its tongue back during the running of the event.

Trainer M Newnham advised that the horse had pleased him leading into tonight's event and he could only concur with the views of Jockey Ferraris.

The performance of DIAMOND FLARE was considered to be disappointing as compared to its recent starts.

Before being allowed to race again, DIAMOND FLARE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.
