Recap by phillip woo
Kurpany never looked back after rushing to the front approaching the 800m from a low draw for a sixth career win and first from five starts over the straight 1,000m. He's capable on his day and took full advantage of 10-pound claimer Ellis Wong. Whizz kid surged late to make it close after tracking the leader on the stands side. He's a 1,000m specialist. Punted late Carroll Street had his chance but came up one paced over the last 100m to finish close away in third following a prominent run on the far side from a low draw. It was another honest effort over his favourite straight 1,000m. We Are Hero made some ground from the rear to finish next best in the five-runner contest. He's likely on or near his mark after winning four times last season. Odds-on favourite Dream Winner found nothing when push came to shove travelling third near the far side after a tardy break. He was up in class after easily winning his first three starts last term and his rider Vincent Ho Chak-yiu was having his first ride after a serious injury.
