Recap by phillip woo
Punted late, Mega Bonus chased the speed on the fence, surged to the lead near the 100m pole and kept on gamely to record his third win. He won off an identical mark last season, and he is a proven fresh performer. Super Eagle ran on nicely to win a battle for second after his prominent run on the rail. He proved his last-start near miss was not a fluke. Odds-on favourite Denfield did some nice work late to narrowly miss second after starting slowly and making his run four back and one off the fence. It was a good run first up carrying the top weight. Late-fancied Golden Luck just lost a placing after finding the front from the widest draw. He is not easy to get right. Lucky Archangel raced short of room near the inside over the final 100m after his midfield run one off the rail. He had an excuse but still appeared to need the run. H Z Tourbillon made ground late without threatening the placegetters after biding his time two from the rear. He prefers a faster track. Charming Steed faded after his speed-chasing run. He ran below par after placing in four of his final five starts last term, but he is one to keep safe with Class Five looming.
