G One Excellent showed a terrific turn of foot to come from near last at the head of the straight to overhaul favourite Tronic Mighty in the dying stages for maiden win at his 17th start. He had been knocking on the door with seconds in his past three starts on both surfaces and should remain competitive up in grade with a light weight. Tronic Mighty found one just too good after hitting the front 100m out following a speed-chasing run. He was able to back up a first-up win for his new trainer this season. Colourful Prince grudgingly gave way after quickly finding the front from gate three. He appreciated a riding change to a 10-pound claimer. Booming Well just failed to get up a placing after making his run effectively one out, one back. It was his best run to date following a move to blinkers and step back in distance. Raging Blaze made good ground late near the outside after making his run at the rear of the field. It was a typical performance from him. Euromissile made some ground without threatening from behind midfield. Circuit Splendor produced only a mild bid after a rail run in midfield. He is limited.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (284) - WONG SHEK HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1000Meters

EUROMISSILE began only fairly and shifted out towards the heels of COLOURFUL PRINCE.

RAGING BLAZE was crowded for room on jumping between TRONIC MIGHTY and CARRY THE DIAMOND, both of which shifted ground.

STAR OF WUYI shifted out at the start and bumped SPLIT OF A SECOND which was being steadied from the outside barrier with a view to being shifted across behind runners.

After initially being ridden along in the early stages, SUPER CLASS was slow to muster speed and passing the 800 Metres was shifted across behind runners in an attempt to obtain cover.

However, SUPER CLASS was left racing wide and without cover approaching the 600 Metres at which time SUPER CLASS and G ONE EXCELLENT bumped.

Passing the 300 Metres, COLOURFUL PRINCE (Apprentice Y L Chung) got its head on the side and shifted in.

Apprentice Chung then dropped his whip passing the 200 Metres.

Near the 25 Metres, BOOMING WELL was steadied away from the heels of TRONIC MIGHTY (Z Purton) which shifted out abruptly.

Whilst the Stewards acknowledged that TRONIC MIGHTY did shift out abruptly, nonetheless Z Purton was told to ensure that he reacts as quickly as possible to his mounts shifting ground.

When BOOMING WELL was shifted out away from the heels of TRONIC MIGHTY, EUROMISSILE was inconvenienced and directed out.

Because of this, EUROMISSILE was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.

Throughout the race, CARRY THE DIAMOND travelled wide and without cover.

Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of M F Poon (CIRCUIT SPLENDOR) close to the finishing line did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit.

After the race, K Teetan (STAR OF WUYI) stated that after shifting his mount across behind runners in the early stages from barrier 11, he was able to obtain a midfield position in the middle stages inside the eventual winner G ONE EXCELLENT.

He said STAR OF WUYI travelled well until approaching the 400 Metres at which time he placed STAR OF WUYI under pressure, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and was very disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground over the latter stages.

A veterinary inspection of STAR OF WUYI immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer??which had previously been reported.

G ONE EXCELLENT and TRONIC MIGHTY were sent for sampling.
