Recap by phillip woo
Champion Golden Sixty defied a slow pace after making his move 450m out travelling second last in the seven-horse field to wear down firming favourite California Spangle in the dying stages for a 11th win from 12 starts over this trip. He's ready to defend next month's HK Mile title. California Spangle found one just too good turning the final bend a length on top settling a snail's pace in front. He was given every chance but was clearly next best. Waikuku came up one paced after a box seat run. He's a smart miler but is getting long in the tooth. More Than This ran on to fill the frame after making his run on the fence in midfield. Excellent Proposal never got into the act travelling at the back of the compact field. He wasn't suited by the pace but lacks the ability at this level. Turin Redsun came up flat when asked for more after a prominent run one off the fence. This was too rich for his blood. Kings Shield faded after a pace-stalking run. He's purely a dirt horse.
