Stoltz just got up to deny long-time leader Classic Unicorn for the win after a one-off run better than midfield to make it three wins and two seconds from as many starts over this Valley trip. He's a true 1,000m specialist. Classic Unicorn gave a bold sight in front carrying a light weight to nearly cause a boil over. It was clearly his best run of the campaign. Early favourite Nervous Witness had his chance after a box-seat run but the big weight took its toll in the end. Voyage Warrior just failed to get up for third after a one-off trip in midfield. He's produced a good effort in each of his three runs over the Valley 1,000m this term. Explosive Witness motored late from near last to pick up a minor cheque. It was a pleasing effort after a stop-start campaign troubled by leg issues. We The South weakened over the final 100m after a pace-stalking run. He requires rating relief. Hong Kong Win ran on without menacing after finding the fence in midfield mid-race. He rarely produces a bad run but is looking for a return to Class Three. Grateful Heart made only a mild bid travelling behind midfield on the fence. He couldn't follow up an upset win over this trip in February. Atomic Force was a non-factor after a slow start.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (623) - CHEONG MING HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1000Meters

STOLTZ and CLASSIC UNICORN bumped at the start.

ATOMIC FORCE shifted in at the start and bumped the hindquarters of SCORES OF FUN which became unbalanced.

After this, from a wide barrier, ATOMIC FORCE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the 700 Metres, NERVOUS WITNESS was steadied away from the heels of CLASSIC UNICORN (H W Lai) which shifted in when not properly clear.

H W Lai was reprimanded and told to ensure that he provides the required clearance when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Approaching the 600 Metres, HANDSOME BO BO was crowded for room inside SCORES OF FUN (V Borges) which shifted in before being directed out to relieve the crowding.

In this incident, HANDSOME BO BO bumped the hindquarters of GRATEFUL HEART which became unbalanced.

EXPLOSIVE WITNESS, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence.

V Borges was advised to exercise more care.

NERVOUS WITNESS lost its right front plate in the middle stages.

Passing the 250 Metres, ATOMIC FORCE was shifted out away from the heels of SCORES OF FUN which was taken out by VOYAGE WARRIOR (K H Chan).

K H Chan was told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort than he did on this occasion to straighten his mounts.

Passing the 200 Metres, EXPLOSIVE WITNESS was directed to the outside of GRATEFUL HEART to continue improving.

Passing the 100 Metres, WE THE SOUTH was awkwardly placed outside the heels of CLASSIC UNICORN which shifted out marginally.

Passing the winning post, HONG KONG WIN was crowded for room inside NERVOUS WITNESS which was taken in by CLASSIC UNICORN.

H W Lai was severely reprimanded.

Because of this, HONG KONG WIN was not able to be ridden out over the concluding stages.

Throughout the race, MCLUCKY travelled wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection of MCLUCKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

STOLTZ and CLASSIC UNICORN were sent for sampling.

After the running of Race 3, the track classification was officially changed from "Good??to "Good to Firm?? This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective.

As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 3 being run on a track rated "Good to Firm??

Trainer T P Yung was fined the sum of $5,000 for entering WINE AND WINE for a barrier trial to be conducted at the Conghua Racecourse on 28 April 2022 when that horse underwent shockwave treatment on 25 April 2022.

Such treatment resulted in WINE AND WINE being ineligible to participate in the barrier trial due to it having occurred within the applicable clear day restrictions.
