Recap by phillip woo

Lightning Bolt dashed well to win going away 150m out after peeling very wide coming to the final bend travelling three deep with cover behind midfield. He had made a good impression in two prior starts and the switch to the dirt worked the oracle. Everyone's Victory had to split runners 200m out to finish a clear-cut second after a rails run behind midfield. He continues his solid form on this surface. Private Rocket stayed on well for a placing after a handy run near the inside. He was able to ring up a season-best effort with a switch to the dirt here. Quadruple Double held onto fourth after getting pressured for the front. He's been hard to get right of late. California Concord ran on steadily without ever looking a threat after a one-off trip in midfield. The big weight took its toll. Handsome Twelve made up a tonne of ground late travelling a detached last after a slow start. He's flashed potential on both surfaces and will be a force to be reckoned with next time out in Class Four. Magic Supreme only plodded when asked for an effort after a prominent run. He hasn't been as sharp in his past two runs after a near win in December. Trader weakened after prompting the pace. He wasn't able to overcome a rise in class.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (457) - LUNG HANG HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

EVERYONE'S VICTORY began only fairy and then was bumped by TRADER which shifted out.

SO WE JOY was crowded for room on jumping between CALIFORNIA CONCORD which was bumped on the hindquarters by HANDSOME TWELVE and FLYING BONUS which shifted in.

After this, SO WE JOY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After travelling a short distance, PROSECCO raced in restricted room between MAGIC SUPREME and PRIVATE ROCKET which shifted out when being ridden along.

Despite being vigorously ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages, FLYING BONUS was slow to muster speed and then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover.

FLYING BONUS then gave ground noticeably in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of FLYING BONUS immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

The performance of FLYING BONUS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, FLYING BONUS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

In the early and middle stages, EVERYONE'S VICTORY raced with its head on the side and lay in and shifted in towards the running rail near the 700 Metres and became unbalanced.

In the early part of the Straight, EVERYONE'S VICTORY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of MAGIC SUPREME.

When questioned, H T Mo stated that he was asked to have HANDSOME TWELVE, which was having its first start on the All Weather surface today, racing where it was comfortable and it was anticipated that whilst the horse had some early speed from its barrier, it would obtain a position behind midfield.

He said HANDSOME TWELVE began awkwardly and shifted out towards the heels of CALIFORNIA CONCORD.

He said he rode his mount along for a considerable distance after this to obtain as forward a position as possible, however, HANDSOME TWELVE appeared to resent the kickback as it was reluctant to improve its position despite being ridden along.

He said he continued to ride HANDSOME TWELVE along in the middle stages and the horse continued to be reluctant to improve its position.

He added that in the early part of the Straight HANDSOME TWELVE lay in and it was not until he was able to shift the horse to the middle of the track near the 200 Metres that HANDSOME TWELVE commenced to finish the race off.

He said over the concluding stages, when being ridden along, HANDSOME TWELVE finished the race off well.

H T Mo was advised that his explanation would be reported.

After the race, C L Chau stated that TRADER was not able to finish the off as strongly as it did last start due to the tempo of the race in the early stages being quicker than it was at its last start when successful.

He said after racing on the speed today, TRADER came under pressure at the entrance to the Straight and then finished the race off only fairly.

A veterinary inspection of TRADER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

LIGHTNING BOLT and EVERYONE'S VICTORY were sent for sampling.
