Racing Incident Report
Race Seven: (165) - VICTORIA GAP HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters
On arrival at the Start, K H Chan expressed concern regarding the action of HEAVENLY THOUGHT.
HEAVENLY THOUGHT was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race.
Also on arrival at the Start, it was noted that MING WARRIOR had blood in its mouth.
MING WARRIOR was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race.
CASA DE FORCA shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of GREAT TREASURE.
RED MAJESTY began awkwardly.
BREEZE OF SPRING shifted out at the start and bumped NORDIC WARRIOR which in turn shifted out and brushed MING WARRIOR.
From the outside barriers, SWOT TROOPERS WIND, SHADOW BREAKER, DURHAM STAR and VIVA POPCORN were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After the 1600 Metres, when being steadied to obtain cover, NORDIC WARRIOR was awkwardly placed outside the heels of BREEZE OF SPRING.
CASA DE FORCA travelled keenly in the lead in the middle stages.
Passing the 600 Metres, NORDIC WARRIOR and MING WARRIOR (L Ferraris) bumped.
After this, MING WARRIOR commenced to give ground abruptly and finished tailed out.
After the race, L Ferraris stated that when commencing its preliminary, MING WARRIOR did not feel entirely comfortably in its action, however, improved significantly by the time the horse arrived at the barriers.
He said after coming under pressure prior to the 500 Metres, MING WARRIOR did not feel comfortable in its action behind and because of this he eased it down in the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of MING WARRIOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
The performance of MING WARRIOR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, MING WARRIOR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
At the entrance to the Straight, SWOT TROOPERS WIND was shifted in away from the heels of GREAT TREASURE which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CASA DE FORCA when being directed to the inside of that horse .
Near the 100 Metres, DURHAM STAR shifted out and bumped VIVA POPCORN.
When questioned regarding the performance of BREEZE OF SPRING, J Moreira stated that the horse was having only its second race start at Happy Valley tonight.
He said he was able to obtain a good position in the early stages and followed the eventual winner RED MAJESTY throughout the race.
He said BREEZE OF SPRING was inclined to lay out in the middle stages and for this reason he was not able to prevent RED MAJESTY from shifting out to a three wide position passing the 500 Metres which resulted in BREEZE OF SPRING being taken in to a four wide position and without cover.
He said BREEZE OF SPRING lay out rounding the Home Turn and then in the Straight continued to lay out under pressure.
He added over the concluding stages BREEZE OF SPRING finished off the race only fairly.
He said he was of the opinion that BREEZE OF SPRING is a better horse at Sha Tin as it had finished off its races there better than it did tonight.
A veterinary inspection of BREEZE OF SPRING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BREEZE OF SPRING, RED MAJESTY and SHADOW BREAKER were sent for sampling.

Red Majesty just held off the fast-finishing Shadow Breaker after racing to the lead 260m out following a one-off run in third. He's now won five times over this Valley trip from his past seven starts and might have the tools to win again. Shadow Breaker jumped out of his skin late to make it close on the wire after a patient ride second from the rear. He proved a last-start win was not a fluke. Nordic Warrior ran on well from behind midfield to fill a placing without menacing the top two. It was his best run in a while with a step up to a mile. Manna From Heaven had his chance after settling two deep in midfield. He's naturally returning to form. Viva Popcorn came from last and very wide out to dead-heat for fifth. It was pleasing effort up in grade off a light weight and he might be crying out for 1,800m. Old-timer Great Treasure kept on all right to pick up a minor cheque after a handy run along the fence. It wasn't a bad effort in a rare outing at the Valley. Well-backed late to jump favourite Breeze Of Spring came up flat 150m out after getting every opportunity one-off better than midfield. The switch to the Valley and step up to the extended mile backfired after going close to winning his opening two 1,400m.
