Recap by phillip woo

Punted late Star Shine got the gaps when required near the inside to grab victory passing the 50m after settling one off the fence and fourth from the rear. Magnificent kept on gamely for second after finding the front 250m out from late-fancied favourite Kings Shield following a pace-stalking run despite a rise in class. He has been in a purple patch of form. Insayshable ran on well for a placing after a deep run behind midfield with cover. He has been racing well to fill the frame in three of his past four starts. Green Luck stayed on all right to fill the frame after a handy run one off the fence. He was set a harder task with a return to Class Two. Early favourite Sunshine Warrior found few too smart in the run to the wire after covering ground better than midfield from a tricky gate. Solar Wai Wai had excuses after a wide and without cover run near the speed. Kings Shield had little left in the tank over the final 200m after dictating the run.

MAGNIFICENT shifted out at the start and bumped SOLAR WAI WAI.

From the outside barriers, STAR PERFORMANCE, HELENE CHARISMA and UNCLE STEVE were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, STAR PERFORMANCE and UNCLE STEVE raced tight.

Approaching the 1300 Metres, HELENE CHARISMA raced tight inside STAR PERFORMANCE which got its head on the side and shifted in away from UNCLE STEVE which was then directed out to relieve the tightening to STAR PERFORMANCE and HELENE CHARISMA.

Passing the 1100 Metres, INSAYSHABLE was awkwardly placed behind SUNSHINE WARRIOR which was travelling keenly and had been racing close to the heels of GREEN LUCK for some distance SUNSHINE WARRIOR continued to travel keenly and approaching the 900 Metres was shifted out away from the heels of GREEN LUCK.

Passing the 600 Metres, GREEN LUCK lay in and raced tight outside TIME TO CELEBRATE.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, HELENA BABY got its head on the side and lay out, resulting in STAR SHINE racing tight outside INSAYSHABLE.

At the entrance to the Straight, HELENA BABY was shifted in away from the heels of GREEN LUCK.

HELENA BABY was held up for clear running approaching and passing the 200 Metres when awkwardly placed behind KINGS SHIELD which was giving ground.

Close to the finishing line, H T Mo was restricted in his use of the whip on MAGNIFICENT as a result of STAR SHINE shifting out under pressure.

Passing the winning post, SOLAR WAI WAI was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GREEN LUCK and consequently was not able to be ridden out close to the finishing line.

Throughout the race, SOLAR WAI WAI travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KINGS SHIELD, Apprentice K H Chan stated that after being able to obtain the lead as instructed in the early stages, KINGS SHIELD travelled well in the lead and he was able to dictate the tempo of the race to suit his mount.

He said KINGS SHIELD came under pressure near the 400 Metres and in the early part of the Straight responded satisfactorily, however, approaching the 200 Metres commenced to give ground and the weakened out of the race over the concluding stages.

He added based on the manner in which KINGS SHIELD did not finish off the race, he was of the opinion that the horse is better suited on the All Weather surface.

A veterinary inspection of KINGS SHIELD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
