Race Six: (319) - THE JANUARY CUP (HANDICAP) - Class G3 - 1800Meters
From the outside barriers, NOT USUAL TALENT and HARMONY VICTORY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, INSAYSHABLE was left racing wide and without cover.
Near the 1350 Metres, EAGLE WAY and NOT USUAL TALENT raced tight inside INSAYSHABLE which shifted in before being directed out to relieve the tightening.
After the race, Z Purton stated that SOUTHERN LEGEND travelled more keenly in the middle stages than it had previously when ridden by him.
He said he placed SOUTHERN LEGEND under heavy pressure near the 450 Metres, however, the horse did not show any turn of foot and then in the Straight was disappointing in that it failed to respond to his riding and finished off the race only one-paced.
A veterinary inspection of SOUTHERN LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SACRED CAPITAL, DOCTOR GEOFF and HARMONY VICTORY were sent for sampling.

Well-backed Doctor Geoff took control 150m out to remain unbeaten in three outings over this Valley trip after chasing the leader Time Warp one off the fence. He was suited by the light weight over the right course and distance. Harmony Victory quickened nicely from the rear of the field to just collar favourite Sacred Capital for the Quinella spot. He's always a chance at a mile or 1,800m. Sacred Capital ran on nicely along the inside after saving ground throughout worse than midfield. He did Macau proud in defeat. Time Warp was yielding ground 100m out after dictating the run. He's beyond his better days. Insayshable stayed on all right after a mid-race move following a deep run behind midfield. Simply Brilliant made some ground without ever looking a chance following a one-off run in midfield. Southern Legend disappointed following a box-seat run. He didn't fire carrying top weight in a rare Valley outing.
