Racing Incident Report
Race Four: (643) - SAI VAN BRIDGE HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400Meters
GOLDEN FOUR was slow to begin and then shifted in abruptly on jumping and bumped the hindquarters of HORSE BULLET, causing HORSE BULLET to become unbalanced and GOLDEN FOUR to lose further ground.
EVERYONE'S ELITE began only fairly.
A BEAUTIFUL and YEE CHEONG PEGASUS bumped heavily at the start.
YEE CHEONG PEGASUS then became unbalanced and shifted in, resulting in A BEAUTIFUL being crowded for room between YEE CHEONG PEGASUS and SUNNY POWER.
After this, A BEAUTIFUL was ridden along, however, failed to muster speed.
From a wide barrier, PEARL CHAMPION was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 1200 Metres, after being hard ridden to take up a more forward position, A BEAUTIFUL got its head up when being steadied when momentarily crowded for room between HORSE BULLET and PEARL CHAMPION, both of which shifted ground.
After this, A BEAUTIFUL continued to prove difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of PEARL CHAMPION which was being steadied to allow LIVERBIRD STAR to cross.
In the early part of the Straight, AMAZING SATCHMO lay in under pressure.
Then approaching the 200 Metres, AMAZING SATCHMO got its head on the side and commenced to shift in under pressure, resulting in its rider, K Teetan, having to straighten his mount passing the 200 Metres.
Passing the 200 Metres, SUNNY POWER was steadied away from the heels of EXPERTO CREDE (J Moreira) which shifted in when not properly clear.
J Moreira was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to keep his mounts straight.
Near the 150 Metres, HINYUEN SWIFTNESS was bumped by SUNNY POWER which shifted out.
For the majority of the race, LIVERBIRD STAR travelled wide and without cover.
R Maia, the rider of 4th placegetter, CHIU CHOW KID, pleaded guilty to a charge of having failed to ride his mount out all the way to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards [Rule 100 (2)].
R Maia was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 3 June 2018 and to expire on Thursday, 14 June 2018 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong racedays).
After the race, T Berry reported that ROYALE ELEGANCE did not feel comfortable in its action over the concluding stages and because of this he eased it down close to the finishing line.
A veterinary inspection of ROYALE ELEGANCE immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg.
Before being allowed to race again, ROYALE ELEGANCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the performance of YEE CHEONG PEGASUS, Z Purton stated that after becoming unbalanced at the start, he had to ride his mount along for some distance in the early stages to obtain a forward position so as to overcome barrier

He said after shifting in to race in the lead after the 1200 Metres, YEE CHEONG PEGASUS then travelled well in a race which was not run at a quick tempo.
He said he felt that although he had to make some use of YEE CHEONG PEGASUS in the early stages, the horse was travelling well enough making the Home Turn to be able to finish in the placings.
He said however YEE CHEONG PEGASUS came under pressure in the early part of the Straight and then, despite being ridden out, was disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground, particularly over the final 200 Metres.
A veterinary inspection of YEE CHEONG PEGASUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

EXPERTO CREDE and AMAZING SATCHMO were sent for sampling.

Late-fancied favourite Experto Crede held off Amazing Satchmo after hitting the front 300m out following a prominent run with cover for maiden win at his 25th start. He was well rated with a return to the turf. Well-backed late Amazing Satchmo stayed on well after a well-executed ride to sit fore of midfield with cover from an outside gate. He's been racing well and remains one to follow in this grade. Hinyuen Swiftness just out-finished rank outsider Chiu Chow Kid following a rail run travelling inside Amazing Satchmo for third. He's not genuine. Chiu Chow Kid came on well from just off midfield to nearly grab a placing in clearly his best run in 15 starts. Sunny Power kept on one-paced after stalking the leader and early favourite Yee Cheong Pegasus to just finish out of the topfour. He's better ridden held up in the run. Golden Four stayed on all right from behind midfield after being short of room early straight to just miss a payday.
