Racing Incident Report
Race Six: (360) - THE LOK SIN TONG CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1200Meters
CALIFORNIA ARCHER was withdrawn on 20.1.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inflamed left fore suspensory) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TRAVEL DATUK (K C Ng).
Before being allowed to race again, CALIFORNIA ARCHER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
STAR SHINE was crowded for room on jumping between TRAVEL DATUK which got its head on the side and shifted in and TECHNICIAN which, after shifting out marginally, then shifted out further after becoming unbalanced when bumped by STAR SHINE.
HARRIER JET and SUPER FUN bumped at the start.
Shortly after the start, GOD OF DRAGON got its head up and became unbalanced when being steadied to obtain cover.
After being ridden along in the early stages to obtain a forward position, VICTORY MARVEL was steadied after the 1100 Metres in an attempt to obtain cover behind MOST BEAUTIFUL which was also being hard ridden.
However, VICTORY MARVEL was unable to obtain cover and raced wide throughout the race.
VICTORY MARVEL lost its left front plate at the 900 Metres.
C Schofield (WISHFUL THINKER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of GOD OF DRAGON, causing that horse to be checked away from the heels of WISHFUL THINKER and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled.
C Schofield was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 31 January 2018 and to expire on Monday, 5 February 2018 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
In addition, C Schofield was fined $10,000.
In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the racing manners of GOD OF DRAGON which got its head up and proved difficult to settle in the middle stages.
INFINITY ENDEAVOUR was left racing wide and without cover after the 800 Metres.
Approaching the 300 Metres, INFINITY ENDEAVOUR and HARD PROMISE raced tight.
At the 50 Metres, CALIFORNIA FORTUNE shifted out abruptly.
After viewing the video, it was established that CALIFORNIA FORTUNE most likely shied away from a photographer who was positioned on the Large All Weather Track.
Appropriate steps were taken to avert a reoccurrence.
HARRIER JET lay in under pressure in the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of HARRIER JET, HARD PROMISE and SUPER HOPPY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
INFINITY ENDEAVOUR, CALIFORNIA FORTUNE and MOST BEAUTIFUL were sent for sampling.

Plunged late, California Fortune was nicely rated on the lead and came home confidently on top for a second win from five starts despite ducking out in deep stretch. Most Beautiful kept on gamely for second after chasing the leader to build on a positive run last month. He's likely turned the corner. Newcomer Wishful Thinker rallied nicely down the outside after settling fourth from the rear from a wide gate. It was a good performance on a track with a slight bias edge for speed and he might relish a step up to 1,400m in the future. Punted late, Star Shine ran on steadily travelling one off worse than midfield to fill a quartet spot in a pleasing debut effort. He'll be winning races going forward with more experience under his belt. Odds-on favourite Infinity Endeavour produced only a grinding effort after a deep run in midfield. Harrier Jet ran on without menacing from behind midfield. In the right grade but he's better at the Valley.
