Looking good in the paddock, Apache Spirit weaved his way into the clear at the 200m following a rails run behind midfield to get up 30m out for an upset win off a lightweight. He's usually better at the Valley but this win does open up options. Always Win make it close at the wire following a midfield run. It was another solid run over this trip following a last start success and the winning may not be over yet. Favourite Star Of Joy kept on gamely following a box-seat run. He's caught the eye in both starts and is a winner waiting to happen. Diego Kosta was swamped inside the final 30m out after getting softened on the lead by Multimax. It was a good effort in defeat and he'll be winning shortly. Why Why was getting going late without menacing after travelling fourth from the rear. He's come down plenty since his heydays and may be near a bottom. Intrepic stayed on better following a midfield run with blinkers and rise in trip at only his second local start. He's headed in the right direction. Wushu Champion was badly checked 100m out when making ground near the inside after travelling near the back following a slow break. He's starting to find his feet in his past couple of sprints.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (486)-FREESIA HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Metres

WUSHU CHAMPION was slow to begin and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners.

MY GIFT began only fairly.

APACHE SPIRIT began awkwardly.

When being steadied approaching the first turn, SHINNING MOON proved difficult to settle when travelling keenly and then after the 800 Metres when continuing to prove difficult to settle raced tight inside the heels of MULTIMAX.

After the 700 Metres, TRAVEL DATUK was left racing wide and without cover.

Passing the 200 Metres, INTREPIC was shifted out away from the heels of MULTIMAX to continue improving.

Apprentice K K Chiong (MULTIMAX) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 100 Metres she permitted her mount to shift in when not clear of WUSHU CHAMPION, causing that horse to be severely checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled.

Apprentice Chiong was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 26 March 2017 and to expire on Monday, 3 April 2017 on which day she may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays).

In addition, Apprentice Chiong was fined $10,000.

After this incident, MULTIMAX lost its left hind plate.

After passing the 50 Metres, WHY WHY was shifted out away from the heels of STAR OF JOY.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that STAR OF JOY had sustained a small wound to the inside of the left hind fetlock.

A veterinary inspection of WUSHU CHAMPION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

STAR OF JOY, APACHE SPIRIT and ALWAYS WIN were sent for sampling.
