Recap by phillip woo
In a thrilling finish, old warhorse Blazing Speed showed plenty of tenacity after hitting the front 150m out following a prominent run to prevail by a head bob for an eight career win and second in this race. Punted late, Victory Magic finished willingly three from the right after travelling one off the fence in midfield to make it close on the wire. He was suited by the lightning fast strip. Raging favourite Werther came up just short following a box-seat run. He lost nothing in defeat but may prefer a ground with a bit more give. Designs On Rome was getting going 650m out after travelling second from the rear but didn't quite get the trip. Helene Happy Star set an even pace, cornered a length on top and found a few too good in the run to the wire. Ambitious Champion wasn't good enough following a pace-stalking run. Military Attack was put to sleep at the rear of the field but failed to let down when push came to shove. He didn't get the trip. Giovanni Canaletto had his chance following a rail's run in midfield in another disappointing run despite a suitable trip and switch in stables.
