Firming favourite Diamond King was held up in the box seat until gaining a clear run 250m out and eventually wore down Dashing Fortune inside the final 50m for a second win this term. Dashing Fortune drove forward out deep after travelling behind midfield from a wide gate to sit second 900m out, assumed the lead from Secret Code at the 1,000m and grudgingly gave way with a return to his preferred 1,400m. Easy Hedge produced a pleasing debut performance when staying on gamely for a placing following a prominent run. He'll be winning his share of races in due time. Newswire Free eventually got going with one wider out after travelling fourth from the rear from an outside alley to snare a Quartet spot in a better run with blinkers. Happy And Healthy made good progress late down the far outside after travelling at the rear of the field from a wide gate. Our Generation loomed a chance with two wider out and came up flat 100m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (174)-PANASONIC STEAM IH WARM JAR HANDICAP (Sec2) - Class 4 - 1400Metres

MULTI-WIN GENERAL began only fairly.

MASSIVE MOVE and HAPPY AND HEALTHY bumped heavily at the start.

After this, both horses were taken across behind runners from wide barriers.

NEWSWIRE FREE was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages from a wide barrier.

From the outside barrier, DASHING FORTUNE was ridden along for some distance in the early stages to obtain a forward position.

Despite being vigorously ridden along in the early stages, PENNY LANE failed to muster speed and consequently raced back in the field.

After the 1200 Metres, MASSIVE MOVE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PENNY LANE.

After the 900 Metres, LEAN JOURNEY was left racing wide and without cover.

At the 800 Metres, MAGIC STAR (Z Purton) was steadied away from the heels of EASY HEDGE.

BEAR-POP, which was following, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MAGIC STAR in consequence.

After the race, Z Purton reported that MAGIC STAR had been galloped on during the race.

The Veterinary Officer subsequently reported that MAGIC STAR had sustained a cut to the right hind tendon region.

DIAMOND KING was held up for clear running until near the 300 Metres.

Passing the 300 Metres, PENNY LANE raced in restricted room between NEWSWIRE FREE and LEAN JOURNEY which was giving ground.

MASSIVE MOVE was held up for clear running until passing the 300 Metres.

Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of N Callan (OUR GENERATION), 6th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels all the way to the end of the race where circumstances permit.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BEAR-POP, J Moreira stated that, from an inside barrier, the horse was able to obtain a good position behind MAGIC STAR in the run.

He said BEAR-POP travelled well and after initially being held up for clear running rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight was then disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding and did not finish off the race as he anticipated.

A veterinary inspection of BEAR-POP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SECRET CODE had bled from both nostrils.
