Recap by phillip woo

Concorde Star had a rails run in midfield and after coming off heels for a clear run 280m, out, he came on strongly to overhaul favourite Nebraskan 60m out for a first win at his 11th start. Nebraskan found one too good after straightening nearly two lengths on top following a front-running role from gate two. He should break through shortly in this grade. Happy Boys ran on nicely through the centre for third after a patient ride second last from gate 12. It was his best result from six starts this term. Ever Smart made good ground late near the inside for fourth after making his run two from the rear. He was able to back up a closing third last start. Well-backed Team Happy was doing some nice work late down the outside after making his run towards the rear. He's better suited over 1,400m. Robot Knight just held his ground after a prominent run one off the fence. He's more effective on the all-weather track. General Smart ran on without threatening from the rear of the field. Punted late Sonic Boom gradually faded after a wide and without cover trip from better than midfield the entire trip from gate 10. He had an excuse.

Near the 150 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of WOODFIRE CHAMP to continue into clear running.

Horse No 3 NEBRASKAN (J304) B Avdulla Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 ROBOT KNIGHT (H464) E C W Wong Jumped awkwardly.

For a short distance near the 150 Metres was held up for clear running behind EVER SMART.

Horse No 6 SKY SONG (J159) L Hewitson Bumped at the start.

Passing the 100 Metres was steadied to avoid BRILLIANT FIRE (D Probert) which shifted out.

D Probert was advised to exercise more care and to stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner when they shift ground whilst not clear.

L Hewitson could offer no excuse for his mount's disappointing performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 TEAM HAPPY (J218) K Teetan K Teetan reported that in the early stages when unable to cross SKY SONG he elected to come back to follow that runner which resulted in his mount settling further back in the field than what he had intended.

Horse No 8 WOODFIRE CHAMP (H292) M L Yeung Near the 600 Metres was bumped.

M L Yeung could offer no excuse for his mount's disappointing performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 11 SONIC BOOM (H144) H Bentley Shifted in at the start and made contact with EVER SMART.

H Bentley stated that he was instructed to take up a forward position.

He said SONIC BOOM was unable to show sufficient pace in the early stages to cross runners to his inside which resulted in his mount racing wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

He added that as a consequence SONIC BOOM was unable to finish the race off when under pressure in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 EVER SMART (J179) H Doyle Bumped on jumping and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
