‘Nobody warned us’: Russia, Kazakhstan battle historic floods as Putin ally criticises response

Hundreds of thousands of residents in northern Kazakhstan and the southwest Orenburg region of Russia have been evacuated due to record flooding, which has caused up to US$227 million worth of damage to property in Russia. Local authorities have been criticised for their slow, unprepared response. Meanwhile, parts of Afghanistan and nearly all regions of Pakistan are battling deadly monsoon rain and floods. In Pakistan alone, 36 people have died as of April 15, 2024.
