The US has announced it will withdraw all of its troops from Syria as President Donald Trump claimed it had defeated IS (another term for ISIS) in the restive area. However, the State Department said the previous day that the conflict is ongoing.
Since late 2015, the US and its allies have been sending their troops to Syria to fight IS, including some 2,000 soldiers from the US. The Department of Defence estimates that there may currently be up to 30,000 IS fighters in Iraq and Syria.
