A 36-year-old Syrian man has been stuck in transit at Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 for more than a month. Hassan al-Kontar had been living and working in the United Arab Emirates since the Syrian war broke out in 2011, but was deported to Kuala Lumpur after the Syrian embassy refused to renew his passport. He tried to flee to Ecuador and Cambodia - the two countries that granted visa-free access to Syrians, but both countries sent him back to the Malaysian capital.
