Thousands of passengers were left stranded at Hong Kong’s international airport as Typhoon Koinu approached the city triggering a sudden No 9 storm alert on the evening of October 8, 2023. Airport Express train and bus services were suspended leaving taxis as the only means of public transport. Long queues for taxis formed until the MTR Corporation gradually resumed rail services after midnight, offering 12 trains until 3am the following morning. The typhoon signal was lowered to a No 3 at 11.40am on Monday, October 9.
