A woman from Hong Kong set a new world record this week by reaching the world’s highest peak in just 25 hours and 50 minutes. Ada Tsang Yin-hung set out from base camp at 1.20pm local time on May 22, 2021, reaching the top at 3.10pm the following day. The 44-year-old beat the previous women’s record, set by Nepali Phunjo Jhangmu Lama in 2017, of 39 hours and 6 minutes, according to Nepali government official Gyanendra Shrestha. Tsang returned to the capital Kathmandu on May 30, together with 75-year-old Arthur Muir, who became the oldest American to climb the world's highest peak.
