Pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong applied on July 20, 2020, to be a candidate for Hong Kong’s legislative council elections which are set to take place in September. A new national security law enacted in Hong Kong by mainland Chinese authorities could prevent opposition candidates from taking seats.
