UK calls for independent investigation into anti-extradition bill protest violence

British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has voiced concerns in the UK parliament about ‘violent scenes’ in Hong Kong during recent mass protests against a contentious extradition bill.

On June 25, 2019, Hunt urged the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) government to conduct an investigation into clashes between police and protesters and suspended export licences for crowd control equipment.

Hong Kong police used tear gas and rubber bullets during violent clashes with protesters on July 12.
