Tony Chow Shek-kin, head of the Hong Kong Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Burea, is retiring after nearly 23 years. Chow was one of the last personal guards for Chris Patten, Hong Kong's last British governor.
During his more decades with the unit, Chow has dealt with about 300 explosives, including three 1,000-pound American bombs dropped during the second world war that were discovered at a construction site in the Wan Chai neighbourhood in 2018.
He explains that diffusing such dangerous devices is a lot more complicated than the cutting of red and blue wires depicted in Hollywood movies.
