Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun has issued a call for national sovereignty and regional unity amid ongoing tensions in the South China Sea as well as abroad in Ukraine and Gaza. Dong did not refer to the United States directly in his remarks on September 13, 2024, at the Beijing Xiangshan Forum, but he urged “other parties” to provide “positive energy” in regional affairs. Some 1,800 guests from over 100 countries attended the three-day event, according to China’s defence ministry.
