French and EU leaders urge China to ‘bring Russia to its senses’ and stop invasion of Ukraine

Europe is “counting on China” to help end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The united message was delivered to Chinese President Xi Jinping on April 6, 2023, by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and French President Emmanuel Macron during their joint visit to Beijing. Von der Leyen also encouraged Xi during the trilateral meeting to reach out to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but there have been no firm promises about such actions so far from the Chinese side.
