Protesters continue push for South Korean president to be removed from office

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has been barred from leaving the country amid ongoing attempts to impeach him after he survived an impeachment vote on December 7, 2024. The nation has been plunged into a constitutional crisis and Yoon has issued an apology for briefly imposing martial law, but the president has refused to step down. Though banned from foreign service travel and reportedly undergoing a criminal investigation, Yoon is still commander in chief. Protesters braved the cold in the capital Seoul to protest against Yoon, calling for his resignation and saying his “simple-worded” apology does not make up for his actions.
