Voters in Japan cast ballots in election as LDP struggles to retain lower house majority

Voters in Japan headed to polling stations to cast ballots for the country’s parliamentary election on October 27, 2024. The election, with more than 1,300 candidates, is expected to potentially end more than a decade of dominance for Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s Liberal Democratic Party. Polls will close at 8pm, with early results expected within hours.
