Indonesia’s Tenggerese people have practised the ancient thanksgiving Kasada festival since the 13th century. This year, rituals took place on June 21-22, 2024. Many devotees climbed to the top of Mount Bromo, an active volcano, to pray for rain and a better harvest. Increasingly unpredictable weather has caused severe droughts and forest fires in the East Java province.
