Former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak failed in his latest, and last, attempt to quash his corruption conviction on March 31, 2023, as the country’s highest court upheld its decision to send him to jail. He will continue to serve a 12-year jail sentence unless he receives a royal pardon from the king. In August 2022, the Federal Court maintained Najib’s 2020 conviction for misappropriating US$6.1 million in funds related to the scandal-tainted state fund 1MDB, making him the country’s first premier to be jailed.
