The first group of Chinese citizens, who had allegedly been forced to work in scam centres along the Thai-Myanmar border, was scheduled to be deported through Thailand to China on February 20, 2025. Some of the victims showed severe bruises they said they received during their ordeal while being forced to work at the compounds in Myanmar committing online fraud. The Karen Border Guard Force said it had cracked down on the fraudulent industry in an area it controls. A spokesman for the militia affiliated with Myanmar’s ruling junta said the force would deport around 10,000 people of different nationalities over several days.
