New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced January 19, 2023, she will not seek re-election and intends to step down no later than February 7. The 42-year-old said that while her five-and-a-half-year tenure has been hugely rewarding, it has also “taken its toll”. A vote to elect Ardern’s successor to lead the New Zealand Labour Party is set for January 22 and the country’s next general election will take place October 14.
