Chinese national complains about South Korea’s targeted Covid-19 curbs for arrivals from China

A Chinese national quarantining at a hotel in South Korea has lodged a public complaint about Seoul’s new Covid-19 restrictions for travellers from China. The woman was ordered to undergo a mandatory seven-day quarantine on January 6, 2023, after testing positive for the coronavirus on arrival at Incheon International Airport even though she had boarded the flight with proof of a negative result. South Korea is among several countries that have stepped up Covid curbs on Chinese arrivals after Beijing dropped most of its international travel restrictions in late December 2022. In retaliation for Seoul’s actions, Beijing stopped issuing short-term visas for South Korean citizens on January 10.
