Taxi fares in the Japanese capital Tokyo will rise for the first time in 15 years, starting on November 14, 2022. The transport ministry said the flag-fall rate will go up from 420 yen (US$2.87) to 500 yen (US$3.42), for the first 1,052 metres (3451ft), and will cost 100 yen (US$0.68) per 250 metres (820ft) thereafter. The decision was prompted by rising fuel costs and a drop in passengers.
